Compound foods are food items that count toward 2-3 macros. As you add a compound food item to your Build A Meal screen, you will notice multiple macro bars filling up at the top. The Compound Meal Carbs list is located immediately below the Meal Carbs list, and the same is true for both compound proteins and fats. Be sure to keep scrolling so you see all of the variety available to you!
In addition to variety, you can also use compound foods strategically to help manage hunger and fullness. Since compound foods count toward more than one macronutrient, selecting them may decrease the total volume on your plate. For example, if you add beans to your meal, you will need less brown rice and less chicken as beans count toward both Meal Carbs and Protein. If you are full, selecting some compound foods will mean less volume to consume for that meal. When you are feeling hungry, you will likely find it helpful to limit compound items to keep more volume on your plate!
