Certain food items have a higher glycemic load, and these foods are reserved for higher glycemic phases. The foods that are removed from the food lists for meal plans below Phase 7 are the following:

- Multi-grain Bread
- Pineapple
- Pita Bread
- Popcorn Plain (Air-Popped)
- Raisins
- Rice Milk

- Sourdough Bread
- Watermelon
- Whole Wheat Bagel
- Whole Wheat Bread
