While this topic could be a book on its own, a brief discussion on how body types, specifically endomorphs, respond to weight loss is important. Body types aren’t necessarily strict categories based solely on shape. Instead, think of body types as a sliding scale that ranges from generally petite (ectomorph) to large boned (endomorph). Our genetics can place us anywhere in between. Though we can’t choose our genetics, we certainly have control over the presentation of what we were given to work with. We can be lean and toned, or quite the opposite.
Ladies, if you have a naturally curvy build, and gentlemen, if you naturally stocky and broad, don’t expect any diet to alter your body type or bone structure. Since we all “get it”—that our shape and size is partly about genetics, why are we singling out endomorphs for this discussion? Since expectations shape our experience it’s important to eliminate any confusion from the beginning. The scale has long been a source of needless disappointment for endomorphs not fully understanding their body type. Anyone can be overweight, but not all overweight people are endomorphs. This makes for some confusing standards for selecting an ideal body weight. If you’re an endomorph that’s been stocky and broad since childhood and expect the same weight loss arc as your friend who’s been slender until just recently—you’re in for a frustrating experience. Combine that with the fact that endomorphs characteristically hold more muscle and you have a recipe for disappointment if you’re looking at the wrong numbers. The endomorph body type accounts for the majority of the most dramatic transformation we’ve seen, so it’s worth the effort! If you’re an endomorph, you can expect to see improvements in your shape and size like anyone else, but knowing your genetic make-up, don’t compare your weight to others of a different body type. Instead, look at your weight relative to your overall composition. While MetPro can’t rewrite your genetics it will give you a tool to optimize the fat loss process and become the leanest sustainable version of yourself.
